Epitalon is an artificially synthesized peptide known as a vitamin for epithelial tissue. First discovered in bovine pineal gland extracts, it is an anti-aging medication for workers and widely used in various cosmetics. 

Original Research Institute:

The original research team behind Epitalon is a Russian research team, mainly related to Professor Vladimir Khavinson and his team. (St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology)

This peptide is designed based on the analysis of the amino acid composition of the bovine pineal gland extract "Epithalamin."

Clinical trials:

It has entered the clinical research stage, but the evidence base remains relatively limited.

Studies conducted: According to the drug development database, Epitalon has entered Phase 2 clinical trials in Russia, targeting diabetic macular edema. In addition, there are some small clinical studies on telomere length and sleep quality in the elderly.

Synthesis:

The standard synthesis method for Epitalon is solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). Additionally, the literature also mentions liquid-phase synthesis (LPPS) as another approach. In recent years, there have also been studies exploring the use of enzymatic methods for greener synthesis.
